Teire Consulting is an independent ecological consultancy founded and led by Shane Connolly. The practice works with architects, engineers, planners, local authorities, and developers across Ireland, providing practical ecological advice that supports planning applications and the delivery of housing and infrastructure projects.

In 2021 he graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in botany and zoology. Today he provides ecological surveys, assessment, and planning support across a wide range of developments including residential housing, utilities, infrastructure, commercial projects, and renewables. His work regularly includes Appropriate Assessment Screening, Baseline Ecology Surveys, Ecological Impact Assessment, protected species surveys, and ecological consulting throughout the planning process.

Shane is an accomplished ecologist and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). He has been granted numerous licences from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) which authorise specialist work including entering bat roosts for surveying, and for filming and photographing protected species. He has undertaken specialist training with Bat Conservation Ireland in bat handling, which allows him to supervise sensitive works such as bat roost derogation under licence from the NPWS.

Teire’s philosophy is grounded in the understanding of the nuances of ecology and development, and that the best outcomes for both development and biodiversity are achieved when they are integrated. With thoughtful planning it is possible to create developments that support both people and biodiversity. Trees, hedgerows, ponds, and wildflowers can become a part of everyday life in the places we live and work, rather than being treated as an afterthought. By identifying ecological features and constraints early, Teire seeks to shape developments that are functional, well designed, and integrated, thereby delivering projects that meet both human needs and enhance biodiversity.
